ADDING ADDITIVES TO PLASTICS

Additive masterbatches deliver specific product or processing enhancements, we can produce an additive masterbatch to suit your application, whether this is for easier processing, great plastic looks, financial benefits, environmental, safer plastics, clean plastics. Making plastics go further, masterbatches can be custom developed and formulated for special applications and polymer types.

Use liquid masterbatch for the ultimate effect and gravimetric dosing for accurate costs.

Use micro granules typically 0.8mm – 1mm diameter – presents a high surface area that gives better distributive mixing of pigments and additives and hence significantly enhanced homogenization.

Antiblock agents, also referred to as anti-slip agents, assist in minimizing surfaces from interacting with one another either through adhesion or other forces. These materials form barriers between surface layers and modify frictional properties of the surface.

Antimicrobial protection range includes antimicrobial additives for plastics. These additives will be integrated into the material during the manufacturing process to provide lasting protection from microbes. An additive will encompass a specific antimicrobial active, such as silver, and can be formulated into a concentrated powder, liquid suspension or masterbatch pellet depending on the type of plastic, the manufacturing process employed and the desired end-use of your product.

Protect plastics and other materials against thermally induced oxidation. This process can lead to a number of undesirable effects, including discoloration, changes in melt viscosity, and deterioration of mechanical properties. As a result, the useful life of the polymer or final article is limited. Plastics are susceptible to oxidative degradation during high temperature melt processing operations and end use, as well as during long-term storage. Primary antioxidants (phenolics) and secondary antioxidants (phosphites, also known as processing stabilizers) thus play an important role in counteracting the effects of degradation during the production of plastics.

Release agents provide the critical barrier between a moulding surface and the substrate, facilitating separation of the cured part from the mould. Without such a barrier in place, the substrate would become fused to the mould surface, resulting in difficult clean-up and dramatic loss in production efficiency.

Antistatic Agents for Polymers Anti-static agents are used to either manage static charges during various stages of processing or to provide long-term static protection based on end-use applications.

The group of chemical blowing agents can be categorized as exothermic and endothermic. Exothermic blowing agents release energy during a reaction, which must be dissipated by an adjusted tempering of the plasticization unit and tool. After the activation temperature is exceeded, the reaction runs its course without more energy being added and continues until the blowing agent is completely done reacting. In the case of blowing agents that react endothermically, energy must be continuously applied in the form of heat so that the reaction does not stop. Endothermic blowing agents usually dissociate water when reacting, which can lead to a hydrolytic degradation of the polymer chains.

Designed to improve several key areas of resin processing. It will help compatibilize dis-similar resins, increase flow, increase line speed for sheet, decrease cycle time, and allow you to process at lower temperatures and pressures.

Scent functional additives create a long-lasting fragrance for your plastic products and are found in thousands of household items, we can make a heat stable range in either Lemon, Rose, Cotton Fresh, Vanilla, etc.

Use liquid masterbatch for the ultimate effect and gravimetric dosing for accurate costs.

Nucleating agents are inorganic materials added to polymers to increase the crystallinity and shorten the cycle times. They speed up the transition from melted to solid material. Changing the crystallinity of plastics changes properties like density and clarity. Adding nucleating agents alter polypropylene properties like stiffness and crystallization rate.

High performance nucleating agents help PP processors avoid the traditional drawbacks observed with standard PP nucleation solutions, such as shrinkage and dimensional control. PP nucleating agents improves the physical properties of polypropylene to deliver improved part quality and higher productivity.

Polymer processing aids are designed to improve the melt processability and handling of high molecular weight polymers. They can also give finished articles improved aesthetic properties by removing flow marks and die lines thereby improving the parts gloss and clarity.

Currently, there is an increased demand for post-consumer regrind in the plastics industry and we have developed a product that improves the quality of regrind (PCR). The change in the physicals can be altered by adding our additive during the plastic processing step. We have experienced improvements to the physicals in PP Homo, PP copolymer, HDPE to improve the overall quality and physicals of the polymer.

Light stabilizers / UV absorbers combat the degradation that plastics can undergo under the effects of sunlight, UV rays, heat and reaction with oxygen. The changes witnessed in a plastic can range from discoloration to formation of cracks. Addition of light stabilizers / UV absorbers can extend the life and improve the appearance of the plastic. Selection of a light stabilizer / UV absorber largely depends upon the substrate to be protected, its envisioned functional life and its sensitivity to photodegradation. The most commonly used light stabilizers in plastics are hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS); the most common UV absorbers are benzotriazoles, benzophenones and organic nickel compounds.

SPECIALISED MASTERBATCH

For a Specialised Masterbatch our team have the ability to produce a combination of either colour and/or additives that will provide the best solution for your needs.

Select from a range of flame retardant masterbatches or compounds, depending on the application and performance criteria. As well as the usual range of materials incorporating non and halogenated additives. Our flame-retardant range offers some of the most highly concentrated masterbatches.

Heat reflective masterbatches can be used in most polymers where they solve thermal stability problems and increase service life by offering heat reflection performance up to 40% better than that obtained from conventionally coloured materials.

These masterbatches contain colour and carrier as usual but, more importantly, also incorporate additives that enhance the process or the end product in a variety of ways. Most are polymer specific and their purpose is to speed up manufacturing processes; in effect to optimise the processes used to convert polymer to end product and/or to adjust the physical and chemical properties of the polymer to suit the requirements of a particular end application.

Use liquid masterbatch for the ultimate effect and gravimetric dosing for accurate costs.

Micro granules typically 0.8mm – 1mm diameter – presents a high surface area that gives better distributive mixing of pigments and additives and hence significantly enhanced homogenization.

Use Masterbatch/Compound at a lower percentage to get that fibre look as similar in rotational moulding, with the added benefits of faster cycle times of injection moulding!!

Wood-fibre bio composite, offering the mouldability of plastics and the strength and sustainability of wood, resulting in a reduced CO2 footprint by up to 80%. Look no further for a high-performance, bio-based alternative to plastics. A wood-fibre bio composite: a blend of wood-fibres and polymers – virgin, recycled or bio-based.

We can also offer a full compounding service to allow the polymer converter to eliminate the need for mixing and blending for critical applications.
